Y.Z, yesterday’s ache

What cities did they ruin?

All the ones I returned to in my sleep.

And the sky’s hunger?

It devoured every moon the oceans trusted.

And to the hearts that waited, what would you say?

To the hearts I’d like to say:
soon,
you’ll write only to the ones who remember to come back to you.
Soon,
love will happen
like a kingdom
and there will be downfall.
There will be no undoing.

And to the ones with splinters in their dreams?

You’ll be the place the light
goes to forget the dark.
You’ll be the place where poetry
sounds like rain
and everyone stays anyway.
